A suspect is in custody after allegedly holding a pair of scissors up to a women’s neck.
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say in January 2017, the man was released from custody for the following offences:
– Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Under $5000
– Possession of Ammunition
– Possession of a Controlled Substance
When released, he was to abide by the following conditions:
– Not to drive a motor vehicle
– Not to possess or purchase a firearm and/or ammunition
– Not to possess, purchase or consume any drugs
– Notify Chatham-Kent Police Service of any change in address
In March 2017, at approximately 3 p.m. the man was allegedly seen getting into the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle and then driving off.
This was observed by an off-duty officer who called police.
However, by the time an officer arrived in the area, the man was gone and his whereabouts were unknown.
Through investigation, it was learned that the man was also a suspended driver.
A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Yesterday at approximately 8:50 a.m. police attended an address on Thames Street in Chatham where they observed the man who was currently ‘wanted.’
Officers stopped him and while he was being spoken to, the man allegedly grabbed a woman that is known to him and held a pair of scissors to her neck.
Police were able to break the woman free from the man and then a struggle ensued between the man and the officers.
At 9:14 a.m. police arrested the 30-year-old man of no fixed address for his outstanding warrants.
He was additionally charged with the following offences:
– Assault with a Weapon
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
– Failing to Comply x 2
No injuries were reported.
The man was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
