Fire causes heavy damage to farm house near Ridgetown

A farm house suffered heavy damage after a fire early Monday morning in Ridgetown.

Firefighters were called out at 12:51 a.m. to 11973 Front Line for a structure fire at the older two storey home.

All occupants evacuated safety with no injuries.

Chatham-Kent fire officials say upon arrival firefighters encountered heavy flames at the rear of the structure in the one storey addition.

Orford and Blenheim firefighters were also dispatched to provide assistance.

“Firefighters were able to get the main fire knocked down, the fire did spread into the attic and walls providing extensive damage to the structure,” stated Whitney Burk, spokesperson for the Chatham-Kent Fire Department.

The cause of the blaze is undetermined at the time, but remains under investigation.

An estimated $400,000 in damage was caused as a result.
