Community Living Wallaceburg marked the start of Community Living Month earlier today by raising the Association’s flag at the Wallaceburg Municipal Centre.

Wallaceburg Coun. Carmen McGregor and Association President Kevin Cavanagh were present to hoist the flag, as agency staff and people supported looked on.

Community Living Associations across the province are holding similar events, creating a unifying message of inclusion.

These activities highlight the positive contributions being made by people with intellectual disabilities in their communities.

The month also raises awareness and highlights the services and supports provided to individuals and their families throughout Chatham-Kent.

The local flag raising will be followed by several other activities in May, including Green and Blue Day on May 9 where the community can join the Agency in celebrating ‘People Participating Proudly’ by wearing green and blue and sharing their photos on social media using the hashtag #inclusion.

‘Day with Jays’ is on May 13, where people supported and employees will travel to Toronto to enjoy a Blue Jays game.

The month ends with the 22nd Annual Golf Classic event on May 26, where proceeds from the event will go towards enhancing the services and supports of more than 400 individuals with an intellectual disability and their families throughout Chatham-Kent.
