A cheque presentation was made to Linsay Manz (far left), a manager at London Health Sciences Foundation, ACT Now, from Wayne and Deb Vandendool and their daughter Megan Johnston for over $18,000 dollars from a recent fundraiser (Submitted photo)

An idea to hold a small gathering to raise a few dollars and raise awareness about those in need to help pay for cancer expenses not covered by our health system turned into a successful fundraiser for a St. Clair Township family.

Over 250 people attended a Night For Cancer auction on April 29 in Wilkesport. Approximately $10,000 was raised at the auction and another $8000 was received as donations. Wayne Vandendool said “we are very thankful for all the help we received from the community. We can’t begin to thank everyone”.

Access Cancer Therapies (ACT) Now is an initiative that helps patients receiving care at London Health Sciences Centre’s (LHSC) London Regional Cancer Program (LRCP) pay for cancer treatments not covered by Ontario’s health insurance plan (OHIP) and that they could not otherwise afford.

ACT Now is funded solely by donations and fundraising efforts. Those wishing further information can go to their web site at actnowforcancer.ca or if you are interested in holding a fundraiser event you can contact Linsay Manz at 519-685-8265
