Base Line Bridge closed to marine traffic

Due to required repairs, the Base Line Bridge in Wallaceburg will be closed to marine traffic until further notice.

Municipal officials say there has been some difficulty in recent weeks with the ability to close the Base Line Bridge once it has been opened for boat crossings, forcing extended road closures on Base Line.

“There are several sensors that are used on the bridge to prevent it from closing on obstructions,” officials with the Municipality’s Engineering & Transportation stated in a press release.

“These sensors have been causing errors with the Progammable Logic Controller (PLC) which is the software used to open and close the bridge. Due to the current load restriction on Lord Selkirk Bridge and the use of Base Line Road as the detour route for heavy truck traffic through Wallaceburg, it is important to take the time to resolve these issues without causing any further traffic delays.”

Municipal officials say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
