Update: Woman charged for cell phone theft

A woman faces charges after allegedly stealing a cell phone in Chatham.

As previously reported: On Thursday, May 25, an unknown woman was at Loads of Love located at 15 Prince Street N. in Chatham. At approximately 3:30 p.m. another customer (within Loads of Love) set her Samsung S5 cell phone down on the cashier countertop to tend to her grandchild. The unknown woman is allegedly captured on video surveillance taking the cell phone, estimated at $560.

Police had been seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the woman.

On May 29, 2017 the woman attended the police station on her own terms to speak with the officer investigating the theft of the cell phone.

The investigation was left as on-going at that time, police officials say.

On Friday, June 2, at 7:50 a.m. the 47-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

She was released with a court date of Friday, June 23, 2017.
