Fishing Derby kicking off Canada Day at the Legion

Canada Day will be started off on Saturday morning with the annual Fishing Derby at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 18.

Registration is at 8:30 a.m. with fishing to start at 9 a.m.

Food, fun, fishing and prizes will be available for the kid’s.

It’s a fantastic way to start the celebration of Canada’s birthday!

Canada 150 Festival in Wallaceburg

There will be a variety of children’s activities and a massive fireworks display to wrap things up once agin this year.

Elm Drive, between the UAW Hall and Warwick Drive, and Argyle Avenue, between Chestnut Drive and Elm Drive, will be closed in Wallaceburg on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The opening ceremonies begin at 3 p.m., while the fireworks are expected to start at 10 p.m.

The ‘Large Marge’ eating contest begins at 3:30 p.m.

Local bands Three’s a Crowd, Bed By Nine and Vinyl Revival are providing musical entertainment throughout the event.

Alyssa Doherty will be performing some songs for kids and Eddie Babcock is set to perform a rendition of Oh Canada on the bagpipes, just before the fireworks.

Kids activities will be taking place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., including bouncy castles, glitter tattoos and face painting.

There will be some vendors on site selling items, a couple of food vendors and at least one community barbecue.

Canada Day activities at Wallaceurg Retirement Residence

With Canada celebrating it’s 150th birthday this year, the management and staff at the Wallaceburg Retirement Residence, formerly the Sydenham Residence, located at 70 Duke Street in Wallaceburg, are holding a special event for those who live at the facility, their families, friends and the community overall.

The festivities get started at 10:30 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m.

Everyone in the community is welcome.

A petting zoo from Zoo 2 You, a barbecue, fruit punch and cake and ice cream will all be available.

Ring toss, bubbles, bean bag toss, lawn darts and golf ball ladder toss will all be available as well.

Municipal services for Canada Day weekend

Municipal offices and most services will be closed Monday July 3 in recognition of Canada Day.

Other services are scheduled as follows:

– Cemeteries: Cemetery staff will be on call for funeral homes who require at-need sales.

– CK Transit: Services will not be running on Saturday July 1. However, the Seasonal Bus Route S1 (Beach Bus to Mitchell’s Bay and Erieau) WILL be running on Canada Day.

– Emergency Services: Police, Fire and Ambulance are operational 24 hours a day, every day, and are accessible by dialing “911” for emergency calls only.

– CK Tickets: Box office will be closed.

– Culture: Thames Art Gallery, ARTspace, Chatham-Kent Museum, Milner House and Ridge House Museum will be open from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. The Box Office will be closed.

– Entegrus and Public Utilities Commission: PUC will be closed. The emergency call number is 519-352-6300.

– Health and Family Services: The Health and Family Services building will be closed on July 3, including the offices of Employment and Social Services, Housing Services, Children’s Services and Public Health. The Employment Resource Centres located at 240 King St. W., Chatham and 786 Dufferin Avenue, Wallaceburg will be closed on July 3. The Chatham-Kent Homeless Response Line is available at 519-354-6628.

– Public Health: Essential after-hours Public Health services are available by calling 1-866-446-8207. Public Health Clinic Services, located at 177 King St. E., Chatham will be closed July 3.

– Riverview Gardens: Reception and administrative offices will be closed July 3, but services, activities and visiting hours continue as normal. Nursing staff can be reached 24/7 by calling 519-352-4823.

– Libraries: All public libraries will be closed Saturday, July 1 and will have normal operational hours on Monday, July 3.

– The Provincial Offences Court will be closed on Monday, July 3, regular business hours 8:30-4:30 p.m. will resume on Tuesday, July 4. Note that there will be no court on July 4 and July 5 as it is a Judicial Conference Week.

– Free open swims on July 1 from 1:30 – 4 p.m. at Blenheim Gable Rees Rotary Pool and Wallaceburg Sydenham Pool. All outdoor pools are closed. Bothwell Arena will be open for Canada Day celebration activities. All other arenas will be closed.

– Waste and Recycling: Garbage and recycling collection services will not be affected by the holiday. Collection will be on your regular day during the week of July 3rd. Please refer to the Recycling and Waste Collection Guide for further details. The Harwich Transfer Station, Wallaceburg Transfer Station and Chatham Leaf & Yard Depot will be closed on Monday, July 3rd. All other transfer stations will be open regular hours and will not be affected by the holiday.

– Fleet Services – PABC and Wallaceburg

– Admin and Garage Facilities will be closed at both these locations Monday July 3rd.

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Services Altered for Canada Day on Monday, July 3, 2017

Some healthcare services offered at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (Chatham & Sydenham Campuses) will be altered on Monday, July 3, 2017 in recognition of the Canada Day holiday.

Routine X-rays, electrocardiograms (EKG), and ultrasounds will not be available on Monday, July 3, 2017. These departments will be staffed to meet the needs of inpatients and emergencies.

Ambulatory Care Services, Out-Patient Rehabilitation Services, Out-Patient Laboratory Services, Pre-Surgical Screening Services, Diabetes Education Centre, Pulmonary Function Lab and Patient Appointment Offices will be closed on Monday, July 3, 2017. Health Records will be closed on Monday, July 3, 2017 up to and including Friday, July 7 and will reopen on Monday, July 10, 2017.

The Chatham-Kent Mental Health and Addictions Program Out-Patient Department will be closed on Monday, July 3, 2017. For any immediate crisis, please call the crisis line at 1-866-299-7447.

Elston Pharmacy, located at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus, will be closed on Monday, July 3, 2017.

The Oncology/Chemotherapy Department will be closed on Monday, July 3, 2017.

The Business Office and Cashier’s Office will be closed on Monday, July 3, 2017. Please note there are two bill changers in the building to accommodate change for coin.

Hemodialysis Care will be open on Monday, July 3, 2017.

The Emergency Departments located at Grand Avenue, Chatham Campus, and Sydenham Campus, Wallaceburg are open 24 hours daily.
