Wallaceburg girls raise funds at lemonade stand

A pair of sisters from Wallaceburg wanted to give back to their community, and they are utilizing a lemonade stand to do it.

Brooklyn, 6, and Gabby Bennett, 2, set up a lemonade stand last weekend and they were amazed by the outcome.

“Brooklyn came to me a few weeks ago with the idea,” Heather Bennett, the girl’s mom, told the Sydenham Current.

“Gabby was born premature and that led to her having to stay in the NICU for a month. We have always talked about how lucky we are to have had such great care from the hospital and how they saved Gabbys life. Brooklyn told me she wanted to help other families with sick children and so she wanted to have a lemonade stand and donate half to the hospital.”

Heather said they spent about a week getting ready, painting and building the stand and decorations, and buying all the supplies.

Their first crack at holding the stand, the girls earned $85.

“We even had a stranger who didn’t know us, or our story, e-transfer $5 to help out with the cause,” she said.

“We are so blown away by everyone’s generosity. Brooklyn decided that she not only wants to continue hosting lemonade stands throughout the summertime but shes going to donate half of all money earned to The Children’s Health Foundation and The Ronald McDonald House, another charity that helped us in our time of need.”

The girls next stand is planned for today, Canada Day.

They will be out between 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and then 6:30 p.m. until dark. They will have lemonade and jumbo freezies, they will also have glow sticks in the evening

They are located at 51 Chestnut Drive in Wallaceburg.

“We are so proud of both of our girls and of our local community for being willing to look past their own privilege and be able to give back.”
