Wallaceburg home invasion suspect arrested

A suspect, who was wanted after a home invasion in Wallaceburg last week, has been brought into custody.

Robert Knight, 50, of Agnes Street in Wallaceburg, faces a long list of charges after being arrested on Thursday, July 27 in Thamesvile.

As previously reported, Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say on July 22 officers responded to a home invasion in Wallaceburg.

Police allege that a Wallaceburg man armed with a knife, a rifle and a handgun, forced his way inside of a Wallaceburg residence.

After allegedly uttering several threats to occupants inside the residence, the man fled the area with a female on a black motorcycle.

Police say the motorcycle was located by responding officers but the suspect allegedly refused to stop.

The motorcycle was not pursued for safety reasons, police officials say.

The same motorcycle was believed to have been involved in several other pursuits in different jurisdictions in Southwestern Ontario and the alleged suspect was wanted on 13 criminal charges.

Fast forward to July 27, police say the man was located and arrested on Huffs Side Road near Thamesville.

As he was being searched, drugs were allegedly located on him.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said in a press release that Knight has been charged with the following offences:

– Break, Enter and Commit

– Extortion

– Point Firearm x 2

– Weapons Dangerous x 3

– Assault with a Weapon x 3

– Use Imitation Firearm in the Commission of an Offence x 2

– Utter Threats to Destroy Property

– Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)

– Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana)

Knight was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and then moved to the Windsor jail.

His next court date is August 8, 2017.

  1. So let me get this straight, this person gets arrested for crimes he has committed and ultimately obtains free room and board for as long as he’s in jail. I agree that he should be in jail, but why is he (and others like him) not forced to pay a daily/monthly rate for his stay there? As seniors age, many of them are forced to be put in a retirement or nursing home because due to age-related mental or physical limitations, they can no longer safely live in their own homes. Through no fault of their own and certainly no crimes committed, they are forced to live in a place where they would really prefer not to AND be forced to pay the big bucks that goes along with this! What’s wrong with this picture? Which person is really being punished here? Should this not be reversed? When the seniors run out of money in their bank accounts from paying these fees, they are forced to sell their homes and any material items they may still own in order to pay for their room and board. Why should this not happen to criminals? The Ontario and Canadian government should be charging criminals to stay in jail and all of the extra expenses that comes with that – transportation to/from court, haircuts, physiotherapy if required, clothing, etc. When they run out of money, their home should be sold as well as all of their earthly possessions until they run out of money, just like our seniors do now. What about their families you ask? Well they (and extended family members or friends) might encourage them to not commit these crimes in the first place as they all stand to lose out! Or the criminals themselves, if they have half a conscience, might decide to turn his/her back on a life of crime, due to the repercussions that it might have on his/her family when he/she is caught! Imagine, crime rates might actually drop! [audible gasp]. The seniors, born and raised in Canada, should then get their housing for free (or at least at a minimal charge), after all most of them have been law-abiding, taxpaying, model Canadian citizens for their entire lives. Immigrant Canadian citizens can get a pro-rated discount based on the number of years they have been law-abiding Canadian citizens. Why should our seniors be forced to end their lives penniless when the criminals can live free and even earn a wage while in prison? Seems like we’ve got something a little backwards here!! I’m ready for change, how about you? Let’s create fairness for law-abiding Canadian citizens!!! As a taxpayer, I’m sick and tired of paying for people to go to jail. Yes, I want them there, but charge THEM for this service, not US!! Move the budget line for prison services and upgrades over to retirement and nursing homes. Imagine seniors getting a state-of-the-art gym …or even an extra bath per week….
