Update: Charges laid after Hwy. 40 crash

A “chain reaction” crash on Highway 40 just outside of Wallaceburg has resulted in charges.

Chatham-Kent OPP officials say on September 5 at around 9 a.m., officers responded to a three vehicle collision on Highway 40 near Border Road.

Police say investigation revealed, a motor vehicle had stopped on Highway 40 which caused a second and third vehicle to stop safely.

Police allege a fourth vehicle then collided into the back of the third vehicle causing it to collide with the second vehicle.

In total, three vehicles sustained moderate damage and had to be towed from the scene.

One of the drivers suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital.

As a result, the male driver, a 58-year-old Wallaceburg resident has been charged with careless driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Highway 40 was closed for approximately one hour to allow for the safe removal of all the motor vehicles involved.
