Jr. Tartans capture second tournament championship

The junior girls basketball team at WDSS is on a roll to start the season.

After capturing the tournament championship in Guelph last weekend, the Junior Tartans traveled to Kingsville this past weekend.

The girls once again showed up in force.

The Tartans battled Holy Names from Windsor in the tournaments opening game, winning 48-5.

Leading the way for Wallaceburg was Gabi Whiteye with 10 points.

In their second game, the Tartans played a split squad from host Kingsville, as a team dropped out last minute.

Wallaceburg came away victorious with a 55-15 win.

Leading the charge was Abby Mahu with 9 points and Kayla Nogueira with 8 points.

The Tartans took on St. Thomas Aquinas from London in the semi-finals.

The game was back-and-forth early. but the Tartans held there ground with a 50-27 win.

Leading the way was Ferrah Blackbird with 9 points and Nogueira with 8.

Moving onto the finals, Wallaceburg was up against Villanova from Windsor.

The Tartans pulled out a 36-14 win, with a great defensive effort from all players.

Whiteye and Blackbird lead the Tartans on offense with 8 points each.

Looking ahead to this week, Wallaceburg will visit Sarnia Northern on Tuesday and play in there tournament starting Friday.

So far on the young season, the Junior Tartans are 8-0, with two tournament championships.
