157 tickets issued during ‘Operation Impact’

The Chatham-Kent Police Service participated in a National campaign over the Thanksgiving weekend called, ‘Operation Impact’.

Through the use of education and enforcement, the goal was to raise awareness and assist in making Canada’s roads the safest in the world.

Throughout the weekend, a total of 157 tickets were issued.

Additionally, Police laid four alcohol related charges involving operation of motor vehicles. These charges ranged from Impaired Operation to License Suspensions related to consumption infractions.

“The focus was on behaviors that put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk: impaired driving, seat belt use, and all aspects related to aggressive and distracted driving,” stated Sergeant Matthew Stezycki of the Traffic and Marine Services Unit.

“Our Police Service Mission Statement of remaining dedicated to making Chatham-Kent the safest Community in Ontario encompasses a number of areas, and roadway safety is one of those priorities. As police officers, we will continue our efforts with a focus of improving the safety of our community, including those who visit, and we will remain vigilant and creative with our education and enforcement initiatives. In the end, a reduction in the occurrence rate of distracted driving and related collisions, along with compliance of Roadway Safety Regulations is the ultimate goal. Achieving this target will take a collective effort from the entire Chatham-Kent Community.”
