Cause is undetermined after $450,000 Duart blaze

The cause is undetermined after a $450,000 blaze in Duart late on Saturday.

Chatham-Kent Fire Department officials say police and firefighters from Station 10 Orford were dispatched at 10:08 p.m. on Saturday night, with reports that smoke was coming from a house 20323 Duart Road.

Fire Department officials say crews arrived on scene within 10 minutes and were met by a developing fire with flames beginning to show from the side of the home.

“Realizing that more water and teams would be needed, further help was requested from Station 11 Ridgetown, who arrived shortly afterwards,” stated Chris Case, assistant fire chief, in a press release.

“The owner was confirmed to be out at the time and crews continued the challenging work to extinguish the fire, which had been burning for some time within the home. Teams deployed firefighting jets outside the property and entered to fight the fire using breathing apparatus, water supplies were maintained with tanker shuttles to the nearest hydrant.”

Case said approximately $450,000 damage was caused, while $100,000 in property was saved.

The cause of the blaze to the singe family dwelling is undermined.

“Due to the severity of the fire and the unsafe nature of the structure, the fire is undetermined at this time,” Case said.
