OPP: $112,00 in drugs, counterfeit money & handgun seized

Over $112,000 worth of drugs, counterfeit money and a handgun was seized during a traffic stop on the 401 in Chatham-Kent.

Chatham-Kent OPP officials say on November 8 at approximately 9 p.m., an officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Scane Road, when they observed a westbound vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr.

The RADAR allegedly registered a speed in excess of 150 km/h, police say.

OPP officials say while conducting their investigation, police discovered and seized a quantity of suspected counterfeit currency, cannabis marijuana valued at approximately $12,000, suspected cocaine valued at approximately $100,000, a handgun and various calibre of ammunition.

As a result, the driver, a 24-year-old London man was charged with the following offences:

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Cocaine, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

– Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Cannabis Marihuana – over 3 kilograms contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

– Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm/ammunition, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Possessing counterfeit money, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

– Race motor vehicle – excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

– Drive motor vehicle no permit, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

– Fail to surrender insurance card, Contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

– Possess more than one licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
