Investigation continues after toy-filled car theft

The Chatham-Kent Police Service are still investigating after a car, filled with toy donations for the Salvation Army, was stolen last week in Wallaceburg.

Const. Kelly Helbin, public information officer for the Chatham-Kent Police Service, said the vehicle was reported as stolen from the owner of the vehicle at 4:29 p.m. on Thursday.

“He is an employee for the Salvation Army, which is located at 600 Lowe Avenue in Wallaceburg and (the) report says he was packing toys,” Helbin said.

“The vehicle was reported stolen from that location.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Rod Louzon at rodl@chatham-kent.ca or at 519-436-6600 extension #87236.

Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.

Captain Karen Holland, of the The Salvation Army Chatham-Kent Ministries, said the vehicle was stolen from behind the former Sobey’s location in Wallaceburg, where the Salvation Army packs their Christmas hampers.

Holland told the Sydenham Current it is a disturbing situation.

“Mark Burford, the Family Services worker in Wallaceburg, had just picked up a significant donation of toys and blankets to be given out in our Christmas packages,” she said.

“It’s distressing anytime of the year, but especially this time of the year. Mark’s working very hard to put all the packages together for the families in the Wallaceburg area on behalf of the Salvation Army.”
