The Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre is adding a second defibrillator and a blood pressure machine, thanks to a successful grant application.

Jill Van Zelst, coordinator at the downtown Wallaceburg facility, told the Sydenham Current they received a grant for seniors through the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit, totaling $9,950.

“We are excited, very excited,” she said.

“The main part of our money is going to be used to buy a second defibrillator for upstairs. Our exercise programs, most of them are upstairs and we feel that is where the need for a ‘defib’ would be.”

Van Zelst said they are also purchasing a blood pressure machine, 15 pole walking sets and upgrading two exercise machines to commercial machines.

Van Zelst said she thanks Cathy Knowler, the age friendly community coordinator in Chatham-Kent, for making her aware of the grant, and Elaine Gatt, a board member at the Centre, for assisting with the grant application.

The Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre is located at 205 James Street in downtown Wallaceburg, and offers a variety of activities for adults ages 45 and up.
