Pair of drugs busts in Chatham

The Chatham-Kent Police Service made a pair of drug busts last week in Chatham.

Police officials say on Thursday night, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service Intelligence Section, assisted by the Critical Incident Response Team, executed the warrant at a residence on Forest Street.

Police say a systematic search of the residence recovered the following, which was seized by police:

– Methamphetamine

– Cocaine

– Marijuana

– Multiple digital scales with drug residue

– Drug packaging material

– A large amount of surveillance equipment

– Money

The total street value of drugs seized was over $2,400.

In addition, a Jeep liberty was seized as offence related property.

As a result, a 29-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with the following offences:

– Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Cocaine)

– Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Methamphetamine)

Through investigation, officers learned that in April 2017, the man had been released from custody with conditions to abstain from the consumption or possession of drugs. Therefore, he was additionally arrested and charged with failing to comply.

The man was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section, assisted by the Critical Incident Response Team, executed the warrant at a residence on Delaware Avenue in the city of Chatham.

Polce say a man and a woman were located inside.

A systematic search of the residence recovered cannabis marijuana, and cannabis resin.

Also located were contaminated electronic digital scales, contaminated drug paraphernalia and $1,330 in currency.

The 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with the following offences:

– Possession of a controlled substance (Cannabis Resin)

– Possession of a controlled substance (Cannabis Marihuana)

The 28-year-old woman was arrested and charged with the following offence:

– Possession of a controlled substance (Methamphetamine)

They were both transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with a court date of February 1, 2018.
