Vehicle crashes into ditch, passenger sent to hospital

A woman remains in hospital with serious injuries after a crash southwest of Chatham on Tuesday.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say last night at 8:30 p.m. emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle that landed in a ditch on 5th Line E. near Dillon Road in Chatham-Kent.

Police say the male driver, a 67-year-old Merlin man and the passenger, his 33-year-old daughter, were in the vehicle.

The man was able to get out, however, attempts to help free his daughter were unsuccessful, police say.

She was removed from the vehicle once it was pulled from the ditch by a tow truck and then transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

She remains in the hospital with serious injuries, police say.

The investigation is being conducted by the Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Unit.
