Several vehicles in the ditch along 402

OPP officials say several vehicles are in the ditch along Highway 402, after more winter weather hit the region on Tuesday evening.

Lambton OPP officials say on Tuesday, January 23 between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning, as a result of wet snow and below freezing temperatures, officers were kept busy on the 402 Highway between Oil Heritage and Sexton Roads.

During this seven-hour period the OPP responded to 11 single motor vehicles that had left the highway entering both the median and ditches on either side.

Police say four of those vehicles were tractor-trailers.

As a result the OPP attended these minor collisions and safely removed the drivers and passengers leaving the stranded vehicles within the ditches.

No injuries were reported.

Today, the OPP will be assisting various tow companies with removing these vehicles from the 402 Highway.

“During such conditions drivers and passengers can expect that their vehicles won’t be removed until safe to do so,” OPP officials stated in a press release.

“Likely, during day light hours and when road conditions improve. Again, these collisions are a direct result of vehicles travelling too fast for the conditions. 100 km/hr is the lawful speed limit. Drivers are not required to drive 100 km/hr. During poor driving conditions… slow down.”
