DNA hit helps solve stolen car case in Wallaceburg

A positive DNA hit helped solve a stolen car case in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege in May of 2016, officers responded to an abandoned vehicle in Wallaceburg.

It was later learned that the vehicle had been stolen and a Scenes of Crime Officer seized items for identification purposes, police say.

In July 2017 a DNA hit revealed the identity of the accused, police say.

The accused could not be located and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Also, in September 2017 probation and parole issued a warrant for the arrest of the accused for failing to abide by conditions of his probation order.

Last night, officers attended a call for service in Wallaceburg and located the man.

He was arrested on the outstanding warrants.

The 27-year-old man has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and breach of probation.

He was later released with a court date of March 13.
