From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
Have you ever been in a situation where you were pretty much at the mercy of someone else to cut you some slack?
A while back I was in the grocery store going through the checkout.
I was in one of those long lines where everyone has a full cart.
My order was rung up and the amount given.
As I reached for my wallet a surge of panic made me instantly weak in the knees.
I had left my wallet at home!
I blubbered out some lame excuse, grasping for any sign of grace from the cashier.
I was quickly assured that I could set the items aside until I made an arrangement for my wallet to be brought to me.
A quick call to my daughter and the problem was solved a few minutes later.
It donned on me that the resolution to my dilemma lay entirely in the hands of the kind and understanding grocery clerk.
Would I have done the same?
For that matter, in the areas of life where I am in a position to help others and cut them some slack, do I?
Romans 12:10 says, “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honour giving preference to one another.”
One good way to give preference to another is to cut them some slack when they are in a tight spot and you are in a position to do something about it.
Honestly, it will likely take very little actual sacrifice on your part, yet your gesture of thoughtfulness can drastically reverse the negative situation the other person finds themselves in.
Who knows?
You may even have a chance to put this into practice this week!
