Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited announced today it expects to invest $36 million into a new Cascades casino at 615 Richmond Street and create up to 200 new jobs in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, subject to necessary approvals and completion of the land acquisition.

The proposed new casino would feature over 300 slots and 10 table games, and feature Gateway’s signature restaurant brands MATCH Eatery & Public House and The Buffet.

It is planned that the new casino will open mid-2019, Gateway officials say.

“I can’t say enough about the spirit of co-operation and partnership demonstrated by Mayor Randy Hope, Council and staff in helping us move forward with our first new build in Ontario,” stated Tony Santo, Gateway CEO.

“The proposed $36 million investment in Chatham-Kent would bring not only up to 200 new jobs to the area when we open, but millions in economic spin-offs throughout construction. We look forward to breaking ground on this state of-the-art entertainment destination.”

Gateway officials say central to Gateway’s success has been the development of proprietary casino and restaurant brands.

The Cascades brand is built around the design inspiration of “Play”.

The new property would be a local entertainment destination that will truly redefine entertainment with an array of dining and entertainment options to suit any taste.

Gateway already has Cascades properties in Langley, Kamloops and Penticton, BC.

The proposed new casino in Chatham is expected to begin construction this spring, subject to required approvals and completion of the land acquisition, Gateway officials say.

While the construction of the new casino is underway, Gateway Casinos Dresden will continue to operate, business as usual, and will close after Cascades Casino Chatham is opened.

“I’m very pleased with the Gateway announcement and the expected investment in Chatham-Kent,” said Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope in a press release.

“The partnership between the municipality, Gateway and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has been one which has benefitted all communities in Chatham-Kent.”

Mayor Hope added he welcomes Gateway Casinos’ additional investment in the community.

“We have been working with Gateway for some time and have found the company to be absolutely first-rate. We couldn’t have a better partner.”

“From what I’ve seen of Gateway’s Cascade design I believe they’ve gone ‘all out’ to create a visually appealing new attraction in our community, with great new offerings, that will enhance the appeal of Chatham-Kent as a tourist designation,” stated Dean Bradley, President of Brad-Lea Meadows Ltd.

Gateway Casino’s Dresden General Manager, Damien de Roux added: “My first job as a General Manager with OLG started in Dresden. Now 11 years later I am back to witness the beginning of a whole new gaming and entertainment experience for Chatham-Kent. It’s tremendously exciting to think about both the potential employment opportunities this presents to the people of Chatham, but also the enjoyment they are going to experience at our restaurants and the greatly expanded gaming floor.”

Gateway Casino’s signature brand MATCH Eatery & Public House combines the welcoming and social traditions of a neighbourhood pub with the high energy and excitement of a sports bar.

Whether it’s the big game, a family celebration or just a social gathering with friends, MATCH Eatery & Public House provides a casual, upbeat atmosphere ideal for any occasion.

The Buffett equally complements the MATCH experience with an emphasis on exceptional value and an ever-changing menu highlighting cuisine from around the world with something for every age and appetite.

The proposed new Cascades entertainment and casino complex in Chatham-Kent is the latest announcement by Gateway following the news last month of a proposed expansion of the Gateway Casinos Hanover site and the $26 million renovation currently underway to transform Gateway Point Edward to Starlight Casino Point Edward.
