Power of Young People survey launched

Until March 30, 2018, Community Attraction and Promotion’s Resident Attraction and Retention will be hosting the Chatham-Kent to the Power of Young People (Aged 15 – 39) – CKy organization survey.

This is a follow-up to the CKy survey of young people that was conducted in June of 2017 and received 1,126 responses.

Respondents to the June survey highlighted the need for employment, as well as professional and personal development opportunities, to enable them to move to or continue living in Chatham-Kent.

Coupled with the desire for personal and professional growth was the desire to be included in decision-making and to see their feedback put to use. Young people want to be involved in organizations and communities where they are valued as contributors.

The CKy organization survey is seeking feedback from local employers, community groups, and voluntary organizations on how they are working with young people to provide these opportunities.

According to Statistics Canada, Chatham-Kent’s population, aged 15 to 39 years old, declined by 5.9% between 2011 and 2016, compared to a 9.9% decline between 2006 and 2011.

While this is an improvement, the CKy initiative is working to identify and further improve efforts to attract and retain young people in Chatham-Kent workplaces, voluntary organizations, and the broader community.

Intellitix Chief Operating Officer, Peter Fantuz, states “Intellitix is motivated to find ways to develop community; on-site at events, online, and of course, in our own workplaces and wider communities. Engaging young people in the workforce and helping them develop is an important factor in keeping our business successful and competitive. Part of that includes working with the community to ensure we are able to attract and retain the best employees by connecting them to local opportunities for development and engagement.”

The CKy organization survey is open to anyone involved in attracting or recruiting people to be part of their organization as employees, volunteers, or program participants. Feedback will be used to form an environmental scan of existing activities in Chatham-Kent to attract, engage, and retain young people.

The survey is available online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CKyOrganizationSurvey, and paper copies are available upon request from the Resident Attraction and Retention team via livingck@chatham-kent.ca or 519-360-1998.

Full 2017 survey findings are available at www.livingCK.ca along with the CK Survey of Young People 2012 findings and information on current resident attraction and retention initiatives.

The first CK Survey of Young People was conducted in June 2012. The survey returned a 1,092 responses and the feedback received has helped determine how best to allocate resources in order to attract and retain people to Chatham-Kent.

The 2017 CKy initiative will update resident attraction and retention efforts and direct work forward, to ensure that Chatham-Kent remains a vibrant and attractive community for coming generations.

Resident Attraction and Retention works with a wide range of community partners to promote opportunities in Chatham-Kent and address barriers keeping people from living here.
