A St. Patrick’s day run in Wallaceburg helped raised some funds for a local youth program.

The Defiance Running Club announced that they raised $2,400 from the March 17 Shamrocks and Shenanigans race.

“100% of the proceeds go to our youth program, ‘Running for Reading’ which has 10 schools participating this year with over 3,000 kids,” said Mark Childs, the club’s president.

“We had hoped for 100 participants for our race and ended up with 182. Definitely going to be a repeat performance.”

The ‘Running for Reading’ program allows participating schools to gather funds for each kilometre their students run/walk, which is then put towards purchasing books for the school.

The group wanted to thank Sons of Kent, the UAW Hall, Shoppers Drug Mart, the Black Goose and Victory Ford for their donations.

“Also big thanks to Rubies for the glasses and Screen Art for the awesome shirts… Tim, Brett and the crew rock,” Childs said.

“Last but not least, thanks to the executive and everyone who ran or walked.”

Childs added that the Defiance Running Club are already working on ways to improve the run for next year.
