Chatham Coun. Darrin Canniff has announced he’s running to become the next Mayor of Chatham-Kent.
“I am so looking forward to serving this community as mayor that I wanted to announce my intention to run on May 1, the first day nomination papers could be filed,” Canniff said in a media release.
“I believe in this community and want to take a leading role in making Chatham-Kent a place that people are extremely proud to call home and an inviting place that is attractive to new residents and businesses.”
Canniff is set to file his nomination papers on Tuesday morning, May 1.
He says he believes there are a number of things required in order for Chatham-Kent to reach its full potential.
“With visionary, proactive and collaborative leadership, we can unlock this potential and make Chatham-Kent a truly amazing place to live, work and play,” he stated.
Canniff has led several successful charitable endeavours over the last 20 years, such as the Festival of Giving, which has raised millions of dollars for various charities and foundations.
He also led the $2.4 million United Way of Chatham-Kent campaign in 2006.
Canniff, who is a Chartered Accountant (CPA), says he believes he has the right combination of skills and experience to excel as Chatham-Kent’s next mayor.
“I am ready to be a champion for our community on a full-time basis,” Canniff stated.
