Black Goose Grill reporting lowest turnout in 51 years for annual Salvation Army fundraiser

The Black Goose Grill says participation is “way down” for its long-running charity luncheon, marking the first time in 51 years the Wallaceburg event has seen numbers fall below expectations.

The restaurant is preparing to host its 51st Annual Salvation Army Luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and is urging the community to help boost attendance and donations.

“Only 6 days to go. What other event can you make a donation and receive a full meal?? We are WAY DOWN on numbers for the first time in 51 years. Let’s go Wallaceburg and surrounding area,” the Black Goose wrote in a social media post.

The event raises money for both the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul. According to organizers, 75 per cent of proceeds will support the Salvation Army, with the remainder helping St. Vincent de Paul restock its pantry.

Guests receive a roast beef dinner with a vegetable, mashed potatoes, gravy, a roll and a slice of pie in exchange for a donation.

“It is early this year, so help us spread the word by sharing this please. Local churches are asked to include us in their announcements. This has always been a big fundraiser, and we hope to continue that tradition,” the post said.
