Enthusiasm breeds success

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

It was industrialist Charles Schwab who once remarked, “People can succeed at almost anything for which they have enthusiasm.”

Back in seminary I was the victim of a cruel schedule in which I had a three hour Monday morning lecture in Biblical Hebrew.

As I made my way to class for that first lecture I was certain that this class would be the cure for insomnia and a mental torture chamber, all wrapped into one.

But when I sat down and heard the opening remarks from our professor, I couldn’t have been more surprised.

Was this guy describing an all-expenses paid trip to Disney World or the verb declensions of an ancient language – I couldn’t tell the difference.

To say that this man was enthusiastic about the Hebrew language was the understatement of the century.

I kid you not, his enthusiasm was contagious and he virtually towed me in his wake the entire semester.

I learned so much that semester and the three-hour classes seemed to sail by.

He actually succeeded in getting me enthusiastic, and as a result, I got a decent grade in a class that I thought I would bomb.

Growing up, my dad got us kids to enjoy washing and drying dishes because he injected enthusiasm and made it fun.

We busted a bunch of plates over the years, mind you, but washing dishes is still a task I enjoy doing.

Consider the tasks you have before you this week that you are dreading.

Now, do a little attitude check and decide you will take a different approach to how you will do them.

Maybe you’ll start something!
