Fentanyl seized in Sarnia

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Members of the Sarnia Police Service Vice unit had been conducting an investigation regarding an individual that was trafficking powder fentanyl out of a residence in the 700 block of Roger Street in the City of Sarnia recently.

On November 16, 2018, Vice officers requested and were granted a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act warrant to search the residence in question.

As the officers were conducting surveillance on the residence they observed the suspected drug trafficker exiting a vehicle in a parking lot on Roger Street to attend the residence in question.

He was arrested and taken into custody for trafficking.

The officers also located two female occupants within the vehicle that were in the process of smoking fentanyl.

The two females, 24 and 28 years of age, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

At 11:25 p.m. vice officers entered the residence named on the warrant to conduct the search.

Officers located a bottle of methadone and approximately 3.25 grams of powder fentanyl with a street value of $1,550 (one tenth of a gram is valued at $50). Also located was approximately $1,430 in Canadian currency.

The accused in this matter, a 21-year-old Sarnia man, has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The second accused, a 44-year-old Sarnia woman has a warrant for her arrest and is facing the same charges.

Officers were unable to locate her at the time of the search.

On Monday, November 19, 2018, the 21-year-old Sarnia man was observed removing a package from his person, by the correction officers at the Sarnia Jail, and attempting to discard the item into the toilet.

The package was retrieved and the Sarnia Police Service was contacted to investigate the matter further.

It was later determined that the substance was “purple fentanyl”.

The weight was approximately 4.2 grams with a street value of $2,100.

He now also faces additional charges for possession for the purpose of trafficking and breach of probation.
