Four Wallaceburg Christian School students received new bikes and helmets recently after participating in a new program started by the Knights of Pythias in Wallaceburg.

All of the students in the school were asked to participate in the new ‘Read to Ride’ program.

For every book read by the students, they received a ballot for a chance to win one of the bicycles.

“What we did is they would read a book that a teacher would certify it and put their name in a jar. We had four big jars full of ballots,” Doug McCallum, a K of P member and organize, told Sydenham Current.

The program started on September 15 and students read books up until the draw day on November 30.

The bicycles were supplied by Knights of Pythias organization out of Michigan and more will be donated for future draws.

McCallum added that Knight of Pythias plan to make this an annual program.

“We are looking for more schools,” he said.

“We would like to do it twice a year.”
