Fundraiser launched for baby boy from Wallaceburg

An online fundraiser has been launched for a baby boy from Wallaceburg, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The family of four-month-old Dylan Reid Wilbur learned on December 22 that the boy has a tumour behind his eye.

“Our family got the news that no family ever wants to hear,” Lindsay Wilbur, Dylan’s aunt, said on a GoFundMe page started for her nephew.

“Dylan’s mom, Jessica noticed his eyes dancing a little and took him right in to see a doctor. They diagnosed Dylan with a disease called Nystagmus and after a routine ultrasound they found a mass on his brain. Recently an MRI has identified that there are two masses.”

The fundraising goal of $10,000 was eclipsed within the first 24 hours of the campaign, which began on December 26.

The total raised now sits at $24,765 as of Monday morning, December 31.

Lindsay said Dylan and his parents, Brent and Jessica, were headed back to London for a craniotomy scheduled for December 28.

She said the surgeon was set to perform a biopsy.

“And hopefully relieve some of the discomfort and pressure inside Dylan’s head,” she said.

“Following the surgery, chemotherapy will begin at Sick Kids hospital to hopefully shrink the tumour and rid Dylan of this terrible disease.”

Lindsay said they are raising money through the GoFundMe account to help both Dylan’s parents take the time they need to be with their baby.

“Dylan is being treated in London at Sick Kids which puts financial strain on Dylan’s mom and dad when traveling and staying for appointments,” she said.

Brent and Jessica live and work in the Wallaceburg area, have been married since 2012 and have three children, Lucas, 9, Zachary, 5 and Dylan.

“Brent and Jess work very hard to provide for their family,” Lindsay said.

“They are so strong, and loving in this the most terrifying time of their life.”
