Trust God to triumph over your Goliath

From The Pastor’s Pen – Bu Brian Horrobin

As we come to the close of the first month of this new year you may already be facing some formidable battles in your life.

When the ball dropped on December 31st you had renewed excitement about turning the page and getting a fresh start, but now a big problem has arisen.

I came across a great quote recently that will help us to gain a better perspective: “David didn’t need to know Goliath’s strength because he already knew God’s.”

It’s a matter of perspective, folks.

If we see things from God’s perspective we can prevail, but if we resort to focusing on the problem, we will be stymied and unable to get past our giant.

This great story of David and Goliath can be found in 1 Samuel 17.

David, a mere youth, was dwarfed by his taunting opponent, who was 9 feet tall.

However, David announced to the giant that his strength was in the Lord, not himself, and then to prove his point he did something crazy, as recorded in 1 Samuel 17:48: “When the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, David RAN quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine.”

Did you catch that?

He RAN toward his giant!

The rest, as they say, is history.

David went on to become a great king and Goliath became fertilizer for the daisies growing in the Valley of Elah.

Let’s learn from David’s example today.

If we focus on the size of our Lord instead of the size of our problem, we, too, can RUN to the battle line!
