Lottery tickets stolen, arrest made in Sarnia

Sarnia Police officials allege: On January 29, 2019, at approximately 5 a.m., a male attends a gas bar in the 200 block of Indian Road and purchases a number of scratch lottery tickets.

The suspect returns again at 6:40 pm and asks to purchase more tickets.

At this time the suspect picks out a quantity of tickets and runs out the door without paying.

The suspect meets up with someone he knows who is going out to purchase cigarettes and asks the individual to cash in the winning tickets that the suspect had stolen.

The individual attends the gas bar and is arrested for possession of stolen property.

As the investigation continues the truth is determined and the individual who was sent to cash the tickets is released unconditionally as he was used by the suspect in this matter.

Officers are able to determine who the real suspect is and ultimately arrest him at a residence in the 800 block of Devine Street.

A 20-year-old Sarnia man was charged with theft under $5,000 and for failing to comply with probation.

He was held for a bail hearing.
