LKDSB hires new Director of Education

John Howitt

The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) has announced the appointment of John Howitt to the position of Director of Education.

School board officials say he will replace Jim Costello, who has served as Director since 2010 and will be retiring effective July 31, 2019.

Howitt is currently the Superintendent of Education responsible for Elementary Staffing and Information Technology and a family of schools for the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB).

Howitt has served with the GECDSB for the past 27 years and previously held administrative and teaching roles within the school board.

“The Board is pleased to welcome John Howitt as the new Director of Education for the Lambton Kent District School Board,” stated Chair Jane Bryce.

“Under John’s leadership, the LKDSB will continue to build on its successes and further our commitment to supporting student achievement and well being.”

In accepting the appointment, Howitt said, “I am excited about the opportunity to work with the team to provide strategic direction for the LKDSB, as well as support the transition with a continued focus on putting students first. I look forward to engaging with students, staff, parents/guardians and the school communities to understand key priorities for the LKDSB moving forward.”

The Lambton Kent District School Board serves 21,890 students in 62 schools through the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the City of Sarnia and the County of Lambton.
