Strong southwest winds are expected

A special weather statement remains in effect for Chatham-Kent, as Environment Canada officials say strong southwest winds are expected today.

“Southwest winds gusting to 70 or 80 km/h will develop this morning into this afternoon,” forecasters say.

“The strongest winds are expected over the higher terrain of the Dundalk Highlands and along the shores of Lake Huron, eastern Lake Erie and eastern Lake Ontario.”

These winds may be strong enough to produce minor tree damage and isolated power outages, especially in locations which receive the stronger wind gusts, forecasters say.

“Wind warnings are in effect for areas near the east end of Lake Erie and the southern half of Prince Edward County. The wind will slowly diminish this evening.

Forecasters are encouraging people to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
