Proceeds from the Dresden slots

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has announced the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s (OLG) annual contribution to the municipality from the operation of Gateway Casinos in Dresden.

During OLG’s fiscal year (April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018), Chatham-Kent has received $770,000.

This sum is allocated each year to general revenues offsetting costs of all municipally delivered services provided to the residents of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, municipal officials say.

“This significant investment in our community represented approximately one half per cent of the 2018 municipal budget,” stated Mayor Darrin Canniff, in a press release.

“This is money that directly supports the delivery of services to citizens and contributes to the overall wellbeing of the community.”

Chatham-Kent has received more than $11-million from the slots at Dresden Raceway, since the site opened in 2001.

“OLG is proud to be a vital part of Chatham-Kent for more than 17 years and we look forward to continuing to build on that support,” said Jake Pastore, OLG’s Director of Municipal and Community Relations, in a media release.

“Each and every year 100 per cent of OLG proceeds are invested in Ontario. From healthcare, to education, to community festivals, OLG proceeds are hard at work in Chatham-Kent and all across our province. We also appreciate the contribution of the employees of Gateway Casinos – Dresden in making life in Chatham-Kent that much richer.”
