Amber Alert ends with an apprehension in Tilbury

An Amber Alert issued in the Peel Region ended successfully in Chatham-Kent on Thursday evening.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say they located and apprehended a mother and her child at the KFC on Mill Street in Tilbury.

“Peel Regional Police Service sent out an Amber Alert regarding an abducted 5-year-old boy… believed to be in company of his mother,” Chatham-Kent Police Service officials said in a media release.

“Police were notified that the persons involved were at the KFC in Tilbury. Police responded and located both individuals safe and sound. Both were apprehended without incident.”

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials said they coordinated their efforts with the Peel Regional Police Service to continue the investigation.

“The Chatham-Kent Police Service wants to thank the public for their quick action and assistance in this matter,” Chatham-Kent Police Service officials said.

“Police also wish to remind our community the value an Amber Alert can have when investigating an abduction. Protecting and caring for our youth is one of our leading responsibilities, this includes the police and the community. In this case, that is exactly what occurred leading to a positive outcome.”

The Peel Regional Police echoed this message.

“Child and mother have been located out of the region,” Peel Police officials posted to social media.

“Child is in good health. They were located as a direct result of the Amber Alert.”

Peel Police added: “Thank you again to the public and media for working together with us to get important information out to everyone.”
