The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) and St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation (SCRCF) have decided to cancel the annual Sydenham Canoe and Kayak Race, scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 28, 2019.
The decision was made early Friday morning after staff reviewed water levels in the Sydenham River.
“Like many water ways in southern Ontario, the Sydenham River has been experiencing high levels and localized flooding,” stated Sharon Nethercott, Race Coordinator.
“As a result, water levels are unsafe for the race to take place.”
The annual race is recognized by the Ontario Marathon Canoe Kayak Racing Association and serves as a fundraiser to support conservation education programs delivered by the SCRCA.
