$19.1-M rural pipeline expansion project set to begin

(Enbridge Gas)

Enbridge Gas will begin construction later this month on its Chatham-Kent rural pipeline expansion project.

Enbridge officials say the $19.1-million project will meet the growing agricultural, commercial, and industrial market demand for natural gas in Chatham-Kent and surrounding areas, including in the fast-growing greenhouse market.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is supporting the project with an economic contribution of $500,000.

The project will involve constructing a 13-kilometre, 8-inch pipeline taking off from Enbridge Gas’ existing Panhandle Natural Gas Transmission System at their Simpson Road Station west of Tupperville.

The project will be proceeding south within the road allowance of Simpson Road to Base Line Road and then east within the road allowance of Base Line Road to the end point in the vicinity of the intersection of Base Line Road and Kent Bridge Road, east of Dresden at the Base Line section.

A 500-metre, 12-inch diameter pipe will be installed near Dover Centre at the Bear Line section.

Construction will begin later this month and the pipeline will be in service by the end of 2019.

“This project will invest in much needed natural gas infrastructure to unlock over $260-million of development potential in Chatham-Kent and surrounding areas,” said Steven Jelich, Enbridge Gas Southwest Region Operations Director. in a media release.

“We are committed to having this project in service by the end of 2019, so that this community can benefit from the added capacity and related benefits this expansion will generate. We’re looking forward to serving the needs of these new and growing commercial and industrial customers in the Chatham-Kent area.”
