Where’s your trust?

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Worry is a terrible thing that usually reaps regrettable results, but many of us struggle with it.

Motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar, once said, “Those who leave everything in God’s hands will eventually see God’s hands in everything.”

I like that because it seems to say what Jesus said in Matthew 6:25 and 33: “Therefore, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear… But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

The apostle Paul said something similar in Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Some of us tend to wear our worry like some sort of badge of honour, but in actual fact it is a ball and chain that impedes the progress of a satisfied life.

I have made it a practice of mine when I feel worry or anxiety creeping up on me to whisper a simple prayer that says, “Lord, I trust You.”

Everything from the engine light coming on in my van on a family trip abroad to a phone call from a family member in dire straits leads me to this short prayer to my heavenly Father.

I encourage you to try it, too. You might be surprised at how well it relieves the pressure knowing that your problem is in more capable hands.
