‘Penny social’ raises funds for Alaina

Chatham-Kent came together once again, to support Wallaceburg’s Alaina Moninger.

Alaina and her parents Kristine and Stu found out recently that Alaina’s cochlear implants were in need of replacement.

Due to lack of funding from government programs, and the expense of the implants, the Moninger family has been looking for any financial assistance available.

Wallaceburg responded to the family’s need by supporting fundraisers, and a GoFundMe page, which was set up by Alaina’s aunt.

The most recent fundraiser was held on Saturday, August 10, at the Old Czech Hall in Dresden.

A penny social, and vendor sale was organized, with proceeds going to Alaina.

A total of 34 raffle prizes were donated, with 13 vendor tables in attendance, as well as a 50/50 draw.

The vendors and local businesses in attendance were as follows: Norwex, I Can Make That Too, Tupperware, Heaven Within the Heart, Usborne Books, C & B’s Spa Spot, Scentsy, Thirty One, Pink Zebra, Avon, Jewelry, Diamond Painting, and Luv21 with Jane (Leggings).

“Alaina’s mother Kristine, is good friends with my friend Tasha. I saw a post on her Facebook wall, that the Moninger Family was trying to raise money, so I went to Tasha, and I said ‘I can do a penny social.’ Tasha was ecstatic with the idea, so I talked to Alaina’s mother Kristine, and when I told her about my idea, she was ecstatic with it as well,” Jane, organizer of the penny social, and vendor consultant, told the Sydenham Current.

“I just love helping people, and I love helping kids. That’s really why I wanted to put this event on for her.”

The total amount raised was $855.50, which has already been donated to the Moninger family.
