While a ‘sweet” fundraiser is ongoing, another meeting has been set to discuss Canada Day activities in Wallaceburg for next year.
Organizers say a meeting will take place at the Wallaceburg Rotary Club on Monday, October 28.
It will take place at 6:30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend.
An initial meeting was held at the end of August to begin conversations about bringing back the Canada Day activities in Wallaceburg for 2020.
This past year’s event was cancelled about 10 days before the Canada Day festivities were scheduled to take place.
A number of circumstances, beyond the control of the organizers, led to the event being called off.
In order to help ensure the 2020 event takes place, a Wallaceburg man is doing his part to help do some fundraising.
Nathan Poirier, owner of a cotton candy business in Wallaceburg called Munkey Treats, is donating a portion of his proceeds to the Canada Day cause.
“One dollar per bag goes to the Wallaceburg fireworks until the end of November,” Poirier told the Sydenham Current.
“We’re just waiting for somebody to step up and find a place to donate it.”
Cost per bag is $3.50 and they will be available to purchase at some upcoming events, including an event put on by Comic Oasis at the Moose Lodge on October 19 and another at Wallaceburg Christian School at the end of November.
Poirier was set up at Pumpkinfest in Wallaceburg last month and sold 85 bags of cotton candy, which will result in a $115 donation.
