Lambton County youth charged following Petrolia break-in investigation

OPP officials allege: A 14-year-old Lambton County youth is facing several charges after an investigation into a reported break-in at a Petrolia residence.

Members of the Lambton County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a break-in at a home in Petrolia at approximately 9:45 p.m. on June 7.

Following the investigation, the youth was charged under the Criminal Code with failure to comply with an undertaking, break and enter a dwelling house to commit an indictable offence, theft under $5,000, mischief by obstructing, interrupting or interfering with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Police said the accused was held for a bail hearing and has since been released. The youth is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

The identity of the accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact Lambton OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
