Shoplifting leads to assault charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 6 p.m. last night, the woman attended Canadian Tire in Chatham.

The woman exited the store with a pair of sandals and jacket without making any attempt to pay for the items valued at approximately $200.

As police were called, a store employee followed the woman and apprehended her.

The woman assaulted the employee and fled.

Officers located the woman a short distance away and she was taken into custody.

The 26-year-old Tilbury woman has been charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and assault.

She was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court last month.

She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Theft of copper wire in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early yesterday morning, between 4:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. unknown suspects forced their way through a fenced compound on Colborne Street causing about $1,000 damage.

Once inside, the suspects stole a socket set and copper wiring valued at approximately $9,500.

Man arrested on outstanding warrant

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Saturday afternoon a man who had an outstanding warrant for the offences of assault and mischief turned himself in at the Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters.

The 34-year-old man was arrested and later released with a future court date.

Woman charged with impaired driving in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Just before 8 p.m. on Saturday night, police responded to a fail to remain motor vehicle collision on Spurgeon Road in Chatham.

Through investigation, police located the driver involved and believed the woman was driving while under the influence of alcohol and she was arrested.

The woman was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 27-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with having blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

She was released pending a future court date of October 23, 2019.

Man charged with impaired driving in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Just before 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, police responded to a possible impaired driving complaint on Park Avenue West in Chatham.

Through investigation, police believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.

The man was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 20-year-old Chatham man has been charged with having blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He is to be held until sober.
