The Wallaceburg Tartans captured a league championship on Wednesday, October 30.

The Tartans won the ‘AA’ LKSSAA junior football championship with a 33-17 victory over LCCVI out of Petrolia.

Trent Blackbird and Joey Doxtator led the way for Wallaceburg, scoring two TD’s apiece.

Jack Murphy also added a 72-yard touchdown run.

Rob MacLachlan, head coach for the team, told the Sydenham Current that 26 of their 33 players had never played football before this season.

“We have not had a junior team in two years,” MacLachlan said.

Wallaceburg and LCCVI were the only ‘AA’ teams in the league this season.

The Petrolia (2-2) squad had beaten Wallaceburg (1-3) earlier this year in their season opener.
