2019 Christmas luncheon being held for Salvation Army

The annual Christmas Luncheon, in support of the Salvation Army Chatham-Kent Christmas Campaign, is being held on Tuesday, December 10 at the UAW Hall in Wallaceburg.

The luncheon is presented by The Black Goose Grill in Wallaceburg and cost is a donation. All of the proceeds go toward the Wallaceburg Brnach of the Salvation Army.

Doors open at 11 a.m. and the final sitting is at 1 p.m.

The fundraiser has been held by the Childs family since the 70’s.

Last year, when the final numbers were tallied, a total of $7,565 was raised.

“We started this back in 1974 and we have exceeded $300,000,” Mark Childs, the organizer of the luncheon, told the crowd gathered at the UAW Hall last year.

“I think we are $313,000 to date. So we hope to be doing this until we hit $1-million dollars but we will see what happens.”

Childs said he is grateful for the continued support from the community for the luncheon, which was started by his parents in the 70’s and has been continued on by himself and his son’s.

In 2019, the Salvation Army of Chatham-Kent has set their fundraising goal for the season at $480,000.

The fundraising targets included the kettles and the mail-outs as well, Captain Karen Holland said.

The campaign will be running in Chatham, Blenheim, Ridgetown and Wallaceburg:

– Chatham – November 14 to December 24

– Wallaceburg – November 21 to December 24

– Blenheim – November 27 to December 7

– Ridgetown – December 9 to December 24
