A RIDE check in Chatham has led to multiple firearm and drug-related charges.
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege in March of 1999 and again in March of 2014, a man was placed on conditions not to possess any weapons or ammunition.
On Saturday night, December 28, around 11:30 p.m. officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. on Thames Street in Chatham when they observed a vehicle evade police.
“A traffic stop was initiated on Grand Avenue at Grant Street with that same vehicle,” police officials said in a press release.
“As a result of the traffic stop and through further investigation, the 41-year-old driver from Chatham was arrested and charged.”
The man faces the the following offences, as drugs and a loaded firearm was located on him:
– Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
– Unauthorized Possession in Motor Vehicle
– Possession Contrary to prohibition Order (firearm)
– Possession Contrary to prohibition Order (firearm)
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
– Careless Use of Firearm Section
– Carry a Concealed Weapon
– Possession of a Firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
– Possess Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
– Possession of Firearm Knowing the Serial Number has Been Tampered With
– Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Commission of an Offence
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
– Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance (Methamphetamine)
The man was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.
