35th All Ontario Farmers Curling Bonspiel coming to Wallaceburg

Special to the Sydenham Current

The 35th annual All Ontario Farmers Curling bonspiel is scheduled for Jan 17-19 at Wallaceburg’s Sydenham Community Curling Club.

The facility will be a buzz with curling competition, fellowship, refreshments and entertainment all weekend long.

A full tournament of 28 teams is vying for a total prize board of $15,000.

First place prize is $3,000 cash.

A large majority of the prize board is farm products and services.

Last year’s championship team skipped by Jim Brackett is returning.

Also eight-time winner Jerry Meyskens will be back to try and win number nine.

Teams play two games and will then be seeded into flights for up to four
more games.

All skill levels of play are accommodated this way.

Teams come to this premier curling bonspiel from across Ontario such as: Cookstown, Glencoe, Arthur, Stayner, Forest, Orilla etc.

Not only is curling featured but Friday also has tractor races run at the club.

You must see this to believe it.

Local musician Mike Gallant performs Friday evening.

Saturday night features Frazer Frase as that night’s spotlight entertainment.

He is a hypnotist who has put on incredible shows at our bonspiel in the past.

Come see if the Chinese national Guard shows up…

A local volunteer committee organizes this as a major fund raiser for the Sydenham Community Curling Club, which provides four sheets of curling ice, club room, and local meeting place for the town of Wallaceburg.

The club welcomes all out to watch some high and not so high-level curling.

The musical entertainment is open to the public as well.

This always successful event can be found on Facebook, web page and Twitter for more information.
