Building a stronger trade partnership for North America

Premier Doug Ford issued the following statement on the ratification of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement by the U.S.:

“I welcome today’s news that the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) has received final approval in the United States. Together, we can now move forward with our partners in the United States and Mexico to build a stronger trade relationship that will help businesses grow and create jobs across the continent.

This deal will ensure freer market access, fairer trade and a level playing field for entrepreneurs, business owners, farmers and workers.

We are calling on all federal parties to take swift action to ratify this agreement in Ottawa as quickly as possible to provide businesses with certainty and protect Ontario and Canadian jobs – particularly in our auto, steel, and aluminum sectors.

We are further committed to working with the federal government to ensure that our supply managed agricultural sectors who are impacted by provisions made in the agreement will receive full and fair compensation, and that our farmers remain top of mind as CUSMA is ratified by all parties.

Ontario is a key trading partner to both the United States and Mexico, and we will continue working with our international partners to secure certainty and prosperity for the people of Ontario.”
