Curling event raises funds for Wallaceburg’s hospital

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation’s 9th Annual Charity Curling Classic presented by ProResp Community Respiratory Therapy took place Saturday, February 1 at the Sydenham Community Curling Club in Wallaceburg.

A total of 64 energetic curlers came together to support the purchase of an Automated Chest Compression Device for Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s (CKHA) Wallaceburg Emergency Department, raising over $16,000.

“We love being out in Wallaceburg,” stated Gaye Thompson, board chair, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation, in a press release.

“The enthusiasm for healthcare shown by this community has once again helped us to enhance the services offered at CKHA’s Wallaceburg hospital site.”

In addition to a full day of curling, participants enjoyed live music performed by local artist Al Kominek, lunch, a delicious roast beef dinner from The Black Goose, a silent auction, ‘Hit the Ham’ contest, 50/50
raffle, and participant prizes.

Finishing the bonspiel in first place was Tobin Richardson, Lisa Richardson, Jennifer Demars and Paul Demars.

Another notable winner was Wayne Negrave, the event’s top individual fundraiser, collecting a total of $753 in pledges.

Returning as a participant this year to the bonspiel was Lori Marshall, president & CEO of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

“What a fantastic day,” Marshall said in a press release.

“Our hospital is so fortunate to be supported by such a great event organized by the Foundation. The equipment they are helping to fund will have a significant impact on our Emergency department staff, as well as our patient experience in Wallaceburg.”

The bonspiel would not have been possible without the generous commitments of the sponsors, said Mary Lou Crowley, president & CEO of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation.

“I would like to extend a special thank you to our first ever Presenting Sponsor, ProResp; Lunch Sponsor, Entegrus; Dinner Sponsor, TekSavvy; Wine Sponsor, Cavanagh Funeral Home; Second Sponsor, Mares Insurance Services Inc.; Lead Sponsor, Bailey Kearney Ferguson LLP; Breakfast Sponsor, McDonald’s (Wallaceburg location); and our Rock Sponsor Dresden Foodland,” Crowley said in a media release.

“Our strong partnerships with local businesses is what allows us to continue enhancing local healthcare.”
