Medical Officer of Health orders further COVID-19 cancellations

Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health had ordered further cancellations across the Municipality.

Municipal officials say Dr. David Colby is ordering the cancellation of day camps, programs and organized activities that allow for the close interaction between children and youth.

“Closing all schools and childcares, but allowing for the youth to congregate in other capacities or in other venues, defeats the purpose of the closures all together,” Colby said in a statement.

“The science shows that social distancing is the most powerful intervention in slowing the spread of disease.”

If organizers have questions as to whether or not their program can run, they are asked to contact CK Public Health at covid19@chatham-kent.ca or call 519.355.1071 x 1900.

Earlier on Friday, Colby ordered various other measures to control the spread of COVID-19 and he also declared a local emergency as a result. Details, here.

The World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared COVID-19 as a pandemic on Wednesday. Details, here.
